Funeral arrangements for man who died after Mayo street incident

The funeral arrangements have been announced for Peter McDermott, Murrisk, Westport, who died at Mayo University Hospital on Sunday from injuries sustained in an alleged serious assault at High Street, Westport, on Saturday.

The tragedy has evoked a huge sense of loss and sadness across west Mayo and further afield.

Warm tributes are being paid to him on the condolences page of RIP.ie while messages of sympathy are extended the bereaved family on their great loss.

The deceased will lie in repose at his home - Marino Lodge, Murrisk (F28 P6W8) - on Wednesday from 4.30 p.m., concluding at 7.30 p.m.

Requiem Mass takes place in Patrick's Church, Louisburgh on Thursday at 12 noon followed by interment in Murrisk Abbey Cemetery.

A native of Curraghfore, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, and formerly New York and London, he is greatly mourned by his wife Lorraine (née Walsh), daughter Croía, brothers and sisters Christina, Michael, Bernadette, Patrick, Larry, Frances, Charlie, and Jenny, uncle Peter, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended Mc Dermott and Walsh families and a wide circle of friends, to deepest sympathy is tendered.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

A man in his 20s who was arrested and questioned in relation to the incident has been released from garda custody.

A file is being prepared for the DPP.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident which occurred between 1 and 2 a.m. on September 9 last.
