Public workshops on Killala Town Centre First Plan

COMMUNITY groups and individuals in Killala are being invited to attend workshops this week to explore options and ideas that will inform the Killala Town Centre First plan.

Killala is one of 26 towns that have received funding to develop a plan under the Town Centre First Policy which aims to address the challenges facing towns in Ireland and provide supports for regeneration.

Killala’s Town Centre First (TCF) plan will be a blueprint for future development which aims to make the town a more attractive place to live, work, visit and run a business.

The views, ideas and knowledge of the local community, businesses and residents of Killala and its hinterland are fundamental in this process. Killala has already undertaken a Community Futures Plan and a recent consultation led by Penn University has identified a wealth of ideas, priorities and needs.

Mayo County Council is working with a team from LUC (Land Use Consultants) and the Killala Town Team to facilitate the plan on behalf of Killala.

The council and LUC invite local community groups (including Killala Community Council, business organisations, sporting groups, Tidy Towns, culture groups, etc.) and individuals to informal workshops to explore options and ideas that will inform the plan and build on discussions and ideas that have emerged from recent consultation in the town.

Workshops take place in Killala Community Centre (F26 C9K8) on Thursday, September 14, from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., and Friday, September 15, 2 to 3.30 p.m.

There will be further opportunities to contribute at later stages (by email, in person and online workshops) but all are welcome to participate in these initial conversations and to learn about the project.
