Passing of popular east Mayo businessman mourned
EAST Mayo is mourning the death of Swinford businessman Jimmy Lavin.
Jimmy was a familiar figure with anyone who ever shopped in Swinford at the family's Market Street shop.
Down through the years Lavin's of Swinford was, and continues to be, the go-to shop, Jimmy always a welcoming and helpful figure along with his late wife Kathleen, with the younger generation now carrying on their legacy.
He will be remembered as a true gentleman, always with a kind word and a smile on his face.
Formerly of Branchfield, Ballymote, he passed in his 94th year, peacefully, at Mayo University Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (nee McNicholas).
Jimmy will be sadly missed by his sons and daughter Anthony, Mary Daly and Tom, sister Margaret Porter (Ballymote), daughters-in-law Tina and Diane, son-in-law Mike Daly, grandchildren Jane, Bryan, Eoin, Emma, Michael and Séan, great-granddaughters Aoibhe, Sophie, Bea, nieces, nephews, family circle, neighbours and friends.
Reposing in Boland's Funeral Home, Swinford, on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Jimmy's funeral Mass will take place on Saturday at 3.30 p.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford, prior to burial in Kilconduff Cemetery.
