Progress on bus shelter provision at five Mayo locations
PROPOSALS for bus shelters at five locations in south and east Mayo are being progressed.
Mayo County Council has engaged with the National Transport Authority (NTA) on the provision of bus stops at Ballinrobe, Kilmaine, Shrule, Ballina and Knock, with provisional layout plans prepared. Stakeholder agreement, procurement and funding approval from the NTA is now required.
The update was issued to Councillor Damien Ryan at a municipal district meeting. He said a strategy needs to be drawn up for every town and village where there is a deficit.
Councillor Michael Burke agreed that given our weather, it was unfair to have people standing out.
Engineer Conrad Harley said providing bus stops and shelters is difficult. Everyone wants a shelter but not outside their shop.
They are liaising with the NTA on the above and are also looking at other areas, he said.
