Central Mayo community mourns passing of Peig Hennelly

The death has occurred at Mayo University Hospital of Margaret (Peig) Hennelly (née Dunleavy), Burris, Manulla, and formerly of Straide.

A widely popular and respected personality who operated a pre-school facility in Castlebar for many years and was the Central Mayo correspondent for The Connaught Telegraph, news of her passing today has evoked a tremendous sense of loss in the community.

She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband, P.J., a former sales manager with The Connaught Telegraph.

Peig was also predeceased by her sister Nancy.

She will be forever remembered and greatly missed by her son John and daughter Regina, grandchildren Grace, Beth, Jane, Stephen, Dáithí, Naoise and Rían, son-in-law John and daughter-in-law Triona, and brothers Frank (Straide) and James (Bray, Co. Wicklow), to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Margaret’s remains will repose at Belcarra Community Centre (F23 EK22) on Tuesday from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to St Anne’s Church, Belcarra.

Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 12 noon followed by burial afterwards in Keelogues Cemetery.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
