Mayo footballer faces race for fitness as Ardagh advance to county Quarter-Final
James Carr helped his native Ardagh advance to a Junior county quarter-final yesterday with an impressive 6 point win over Achill.
Ardagh, with Carr in their ranks are touted as favourites for the McDonnell Cup. But they may have to soldier on without their star player in their last eight decider against Shrule/Glencorrib.
After the final whistle, the Mayo forward was helped off the field with what looked to be a serious injury. He was seen yesterday on crutches and has had an unfortunate time with injuries.
Comortas champions Cill Chomáin have battled without their talisman Justin Healy as he was side lined with injury earlier in the year. The black and white from Glenamoy will play the newly formed Northern Gaels. The amalgamation of Lacken and Kilfian have made it to the knockouts to the surprise of many pundits.
Last years relegated side from intermediate, Lahardane MacHales had an impressive victory over rivals Swinford in James Stephens Park in Ballina. The Nephin men will now play north Mayo side Killala in the crunch quarter-final tie.
Other draws in the Junior Championship include Lahardane MacHales vs Killala, Cill Chomain vs Northern Gaels and Eastern Gaels vs Swinford and Ardagh vs Shrule/Glencorrib.
