N17 junction assessment is requested by Mayo councillor
AN assessment has been requested on the Skevard junction on the N17, on the Claremorris side of Ballindine, to be presented to TII for approval and funding.
Stating he's not looking for a major route investment, Councillor Richard Finn suggested there should be a middle lane to assist motorists turning right.
It's a good system and easy to do, he told a municipal meeting.
Councillor Tom Connolly agreed, saying it would be a major safety improvement.
Councillor Finn was told accident statistics will be reviewed at the location.
The relocation of the existing house entrance will be considered as part of the junction review.
As a point of information, he was told traffic volumes would indicate that there is no justification for the provision of a right turning lane on the N17 at this location.
