Mayo art history project wins major international award

The set of eight amazing historical boards erected in June this year at Dunnes Stores, Ballina, has been awarded the bronze prize at the international 2023 Summit Creative Award competition, marking a significant achievement in the world of creative excellence.

The exceptional creative work for Ballina Community Clean Up Group/Dunnes Stores, designed by artist Conor McGuire stood out among more than 3,900 entries from 28 countries, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and excellence.

Dermot Rice of Ballina Community Clean Up Group said: "We're delighted with this win for our town on the world stage.

"The entire project has been a hugely positive experience as the local management team at Dunnes stores, Brendan McEvoy and Michael Heneghan, embraced the idea from the start, and Dunnes Stores head office gave the project their full support in a great show of belief in Ballina.

"It's a testament to our team's hard work and creative vision and we dedicate the project to all our volunteers, past and present, and to all the people of our great town."

The Summit Creative Award celebrates the creative accomplishments of small and medium-sized organisations with annual billings under $40 million.

In its 29th year, the award is a symbol of creative excellence within this segment and serves as a global platform to recognise outstanding work.

This year's panel of international judges, representing over a dozen countries across five continents, meticulously evaluated entries in 16 major categories.

Their blind judging process aimed to recognize inventive concepts, compelling executions, impactful user experiences, and effective communication. Winners emerged in diverse categories spanning print, broadcast, online advertising, and social media.

This year's dynamic creative competition showcased participation from 28 countries, including Argentina, Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Denmark, France, Ireland, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Mexico, Nigeria, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Türkiye, United Kingdom, and the United States.
