Public meeting to be held in Mayo village to protest lack of GP care

Patients of the Addergoole Medical Centre in the north Mayo parish are holding a public meeting on Monday, Septmeber 25 to demand answers from politicians and HSÉ officials.

Grievances have arisen over the lack of clarity regarding the future of GP care in their community.

The meeting is being organised by Gerry Loftus of the Rural Ireland Organisation.

A private meeting was held on September 8 in Lahardane Community Centre, also organised by the Rural Independent Organisation.

That meeting had almost 100 people in attendance as the audience heard concerns from local people regarding the loss of Dr. Enda Loftus and the potential detrimental impact it could have on the community writ large.

Addergoole encompasses three electoral areas, Westport, Castlebar and Ballina. During the private meeting members of the community asked for councillors from each of those electoral areas to attend as they feel they have been left without representation.

There is an open invitation for all politicians and local representatives to attend this meeting on Monday, September 25 in Lahardane.

The Rural Ireland Organisation has also asked the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly to attend.
