Mayo drama group stage 'Wake in the West' in aid of charity

Cong based drama group The Other Abbey Players present the hilarious comedy, A Wake In The West, in Claremorris Town Hall Theatre on Friday night, September 29, at 8 p.m.

This ever popular and side splitting comedy was written by Mayo man Michael J. Ginnelly.

The play brings the 1970s to life in the west of Ireland after Tom Healy drinks himself to death, his final wish being to be buried in the drink at sea!

Shortly before death, Tom acquired a new pair of false teeth, which cause absolute consternation on his death bed.

Nothing brings Irish village life together more so than a wake and this rip-roaring comedy is one that you will not want to miss.

The Other Abbey Players are an experienced and very talented group, who have performed this play before.

The reaction was incredible, leading to the group restaging the production on two subsequent occasions.

On this occasion, The Players have very kindly agreed to perform the play in aid of the Irish Pilgrimage Trust.

The Irish Pilgrimage Trust is a very worthy and well established charity, which is in existence for over 50 years.

The Trust involves groups of volunteers (who pay all their own expenses) fundraising to take groups of children and young adults with varying degrees of special needs to Lourdes for a holiday at Easter each year.

All proceeds of this particular effort will go to group 109 of the Trust. This a group based largely in the south Mayo/north Galway region.

All concerned are most grateful to The Other Abbey Players for their efforts and generosity of spirit.

Tickets can be booked online at townhall.ie, from the theatre box office on (094) 9310999 and will also be available at the door on the night.

Doors open at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

Full bar facilities.
