Move to provide better fencing along river at Mayo greenway

An examination of the fencing along the greenway between Castlebar and Turlough has been carried out by Mayo County Council..

A report is prepared with recommendation of works required.

The authority is in discussions with to secure budget to carry out necessary repair and upgrading works.

Councillor Ger Deere told a meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District that families with young children were reluctant to use the walk because of their fears in regard to the fencing along the river.

"The wire structure is not sufficient to prevent somebody from entering the water in the event of an accident.

"I am glad the matter is a priority and I hope work starts as swiftly as possible."
