Report sought on job creation progress at former Mayo industrial plant

An elected member of Mayo County Council is seeking details on the progress of job creation proposals at a former Mayo industrial plant.

Councillor Donna Sheridan said the council agree to lease 5,663 square metres the old Volex building at Breaffy Road, Castlebar, in January 2020, on the basis it had the potential to create 30 jobs over a two year period with an investment of €1.2 million.

"However, we have not yet received information of the number of new jobs that have been created at the plant since we made our decision on the leasing.

"I am calling for an updated report to be circulated to the elected members," she stated.

It is understood the lease was agreed for a period of six years with an option to sell at that point.
