Major funding boost for Mayo education and training body

A Mayo TD has welcomed news that €207,000 has been granted to Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB).

Deputy Alan Dillon said he was delighted with the announcement by his colleague, Simon Harris, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science that funding of €5.4m in further education capital grants has been awarded to Education and Training Boards nationally.

The new funding is in addition to €8 million issued in April under the Devolved Capital Grant to the 16 ETB’s to invest in small-scale FET investment priorities at a local level under Project Ireland 2040.

Deputy Dillon said: “I am delighted that MSLETB will receive €207,000 in addition to the €507,500 which was approved in capital funding last April under the Devolved Capital Grant.

"This funding will prove to be an essential part of the overall funding framework to support the ETB’s in the delivery of Further Education and Training by making small but important improvements across their estates.”

"Over 120 projects across the country have been approved which will have a meaningful impact on students and their learning experience.

"This approval follows an expression of interest process, approved by the Department in early summer, to identify further suitable projects in 2023 for funding."

Deputy Dillon said he was very pleased that government and the Minister for Further Education continue to acknowledge the work of staff and students at MSLETB.

“Projects approved cover health and safety issues, small-scale energy efficiency measures, equipment and requests relating to positive improvements for learning spaces. The funding will be distributed through SOLAS,” he added.
