South Mayo community mourns death of popular personality

The death has taken place of James (Jim) Flanagan, Gortaphuill, Ballyglass, Claremorris.

He died peacefully at home on Saturday surrounded by his loving family.

A popular and respected personality, news of his passing has evoked an immense sense of loss in the community.

James was devoted husband of Evelyn, much loved dad of Josephine, Patricia, Caroline, Regina, Fergus and Seamus and beloved brother of Nancy Dempsey, Lisnolan, Balla.

He is also deeply regretted by his sons-in law Leo, Tadgh and Pat, daughters-in-law Mary and June, grandchildren Fintan, Gerry, Katie, Amy, TJ, Jamie, Joshua, Jessica, Isabelle, Harriet, Charlotte and Max, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and wonderful neighbours.

Sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

James was pre-deceased by his parents James and Delia, his sister Rita Staed and his brother Tom.

His remains will be reposing at Balla Funeral Home today (Monday) from 5 to 7 pm.

Removal on Tuesday from his home to the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace and St. Gerald, Mayo Abbey, for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m. with the burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
