The cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Councillor Michael Loftus, reading one of the old minute books.

Historic Mayo County Council minute books repaired and digitised

A new insight into the tumultuous years from 1913 to 1923 is now available to the people of Mayo.

Mayo County Council has digitised the minute books of the council for those momentous years in Irish history.

Some of these were in very poor condition with cracked spines, loose pages and damaged covers.

The books have been cleaned, repaired and fully digitised.

The collection includes seen council minute books and five rare Urban District Council minute books from that period.

These records provide a valuable insight into the political, social and cultural life of the county in those historic years.

The books have been cleaned, repaired, preserved and fully digitised and indexed.

They will be made available to the public for the first time on the council’s website.

This project was carried out under the council’s Decade of Centenaries programme.
