Mayo election candidate speaks about trauma impacting Lahardane due to loss of GP care

Harry Barrett, a candidate in next year’s local elections has stated the people in Lahardane have suffered trauma over the actions taken by the HSE to remove their GP care.

Lahardane was rocked last week when their primary care centre was shuttered with local people in the parish of Addergoole informed they should seek care in neighbouring towns.

“Lahardane suffered a trauma 10 years ago when their garda station was shut, now they’re suffering again because of a stroke of a pen in Merlin Park,” Barrett remarked.

“I know a woman in Parke who has been on a waiting list in Castlebar to access GP care and then she was to contact Lahardane only to find out it’s closed.”

Campaigners in Lahardane hope to see a positive resolution to their campaign but time is of the essence.

Barrett stated: “The next two weeks are crucial.”
