Long established Mayo business is closing

A long established Mayo business in south Mayo is closing.

Smyths Newsagents & Bookstore in Claremorris, which opened in 1935, made the announcement on its social media this morning.

The shop, located in the heart of the town, will close its doors on Friday, October 27.

A closing down sale is taking place in the run up to that date.

A message from the Smyth family posted on Facebook read: 'After almost 90 years trading it comes with great sadness to announce the closure of Smyths Newsagents (or little Smyths as it was often referred to).

'We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers, neighbours and friends for their custom and support over the years. We would also like to thank all our staff for their commitment and contribution to the business. Míle Buíochas.'

Friends and customers have been sharing fond memories online as this era in the business life of the town comes to an end.
