Number of GAA clubs in Mayo planning improvements at grounds
A NUMBER of GAA clubs have planning applications before Mayo County Council for improvements to their facilities.
They include Kilmeena GAA Club who are seeking to construct an all weather astro turf pitch at their grounds at Moyna/Rassakeeran, Kilmeena.
The new pitch is proposed to be constructed in place of an existing sand training pitch.
Breaffy GAA Club are hoping to improve lighting at their grounds.
The club is seeking the go-ahead for the installation of a football pitch flood lighting system, consisting of four 18-metre high columns with lighting array, and also the upgrading of the walkway lighting surrounding the pitch.
Connacht GAA is also improving lighting at its centre of excellence in Bekan with an application regarding floodlights for pitch 4 at the site.
Meanwhile, Kilmaine GAA Club has received the green light from planners for a proposed development at their club.
It involves the construction of a new all weather sports GAA pitch with ball catch netting and floodlights, a new all weather astro sports facility (60m v 30m) with perimeter fencing and ball netting, a new spectator stand, pedestrian walkway round the perimeter of the development, and also new car park to facilitate 65 vehicles.
