Liverpool beat 2-0 Everton in the 243rd Merseyside derby which was the opening game of the day's Premier League action.

Mo Salah netted twice at Anfield, while Ashley Young was shown a red for the visitors shortly before half-time.

Manchester City defeated Brighton 2-1, Wolves  Bournemouth 2-1, and Newcastle were comfortable 4-0 winners against Crystal Palace.

Ireland winger Chiezdozie Ogbene helped Luton from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Nottingham Forest to score his first goal for the club, and Brentford defeated Burnley 3-0.

In the 5:30 kick-off, Arsenal have comeback from 2-0 down to draw level thanks to goals from Rice and Trossard.

Tributes will be paid to Sir Bobby Charlton before Manchester United's game against Sheffield United at 8:00, following his passing earlier today.

Athlone Town are 3-1 up on Cork City late on in the Women's Premier Division. Chloe Singleton with a doubled in that one.

Wexford Youths still lead Shamrock Rovers 1-0 with that Kylie Murphy goal the only thing separating the sides as we head towards full time.

Rugby

England captain Owen Farrell is confident they've got the players required to pull off a huge upset in tonight's Rugby World Cup semi-final.

They're taking on defending champions South Africa, who they lost to in the final four years ago.

Ulster and Connacht have opened their URC seasons with wins this afternoon.

Connacht survived a fightback in the second half to defeat Ospreys 34-26 at the Sportsground.

Earlier, Dan McFarland's men came from behind to get past Zebre 40-36 in Italy.

At the minute, Munster are beginning the defence of their title at home to the Sharks.

It's coming up to full time there and it's Munster 29 Sharks 14 with Andrew Conway scoring the bonus point try on his 150th cap for the province.
