Work starts on multi-million-euro Mayo commercial investment
Construction is officially underway for a ground-breaking multi-million-euro commercial development project in the heart of Castlebar's town centre.
Dermot Fadden, a prominent local businessman and owner of 6th Sense men's fashion company, has confirmed the commencement of an ambitious revitalisation investment at the former Lavelle's Bakery and Upper Crust sites on Main Street.
The project is expected to be completed within the next 12 months.
Mick Duane has been appointed as the main building contractor for this long-awaited endeavour, which has been in the planning stages for several years.
Mr. Fadden's vision includes the creation of cutting-edge retail spaces on the ground floor, along with office facilities to house the head offices of 6th Sense, in addition to residential accommodations.
A central feature of this development is the integration of a new retail link, further extending the current riverside and greenway walks in the town.
In a statement, local Mayo TD Alan Dillon conveyed his enthusiasm and support for the project, highlighting the significant boost this project will provide to Castlebar's town centre.
"This investment will inject renewed energy and optimism into our town centre," he stated.
He wished Mr. Fadden every success in this endeavour and stated: "This investment will pave the way for further developments and I’m optimistic about the future of Castlebar town centre.
"It is now a university town, and this is an ideal time to invest in it."
Deputy Dillon praised the commitment and dedication of entrepreneurs like Dermot Fadden and called for strong support from Mayo County Council for private developers committed to urban regeneration projects in the heart of Castlebar and beyond.
Expressing his appreciation, Mr. Dermott Fadden expressed his gratitude to Mayo County Council for their invaluable input.
He also acknowledged the commitment of local councillors Cyril Burke, Ger Deere, former Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Deputy Alan Dillon for their hard work and support.
Mr. Fadden stated: "I am very pleased that the work on Main Street has commenced, it has taken some time to get here but I look forward to the positive impact this project will have on our beloved Castlebar."
Deputy Dillon concluded by adding: "This announcement reaffirms a firm commitment to Castlebar's growth.
"We're witnessing monumental investments, from the adaptive reuse of the old post office into a youth hub and the development plans around Castle Street car park and Rock Square, to the imminent announcement of the Imperial Hotel’s acquisition.
"With the new Mayo College of Further Education in Newtown and the ongoing revitalisation projects, including Ellison Street's residential revamp and the recent overhaul of Hoban's car park, Castlebar's future has never looked brighter."
