Mayo comedy thar barr ag Greann as Gaeilge

AN evening of top-class comedy from the very best Irish comedians is being hosted by the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday, November 9.

Delivered ‘As Gaeilge’, there will be sharp gags, quick wit, whimsical observations and high energy hijinks, starring the funniest performers around: Ger Staunton, Martin Angolo, Aine Gallagher and Julie Jay. Laughs are guaranteed - whether you are a fluent Irish speaker or just starting out.

Oíche gheandrámaíochta den chéad scoth leis na haisteoirí grinn is fear sa tír, ar an Déardaoin, Samhain 9, ag Ollscoil Ealaíon na Linne í Caisleán an Bharraigh. Bí linn do scéalta grinn géara, beo-intinn, tuairimí meidhreacha agus pleidhcíocht bhríomhar - iad go léir churtha i láthair as Gaeilge.

Ag glacadh páirte beidh na haisteoirí is greannmhara atá thart: Ger Staunton, Martin Angolo, Áine Gallagher, agus Julie Jay. Gáirí á soláthar gan teip. Más cainteoir líofa Gaeilge thú nó muna bhfuil agat ach an ‘cúpla focal’ - Bí Linn!

Comedian and Castlebar legend, Ger Staunton commented: “Seo mo chéad uair, my first time, performing comedy as Gaeilge í Caisleán a Bharraigh agus tá mé ag súil go mór leis. We have the best comedians from both the English-speaking and Irish-speaking comedy world joining us in the Linenhall for what's sure to be craic iontach agus oíche den scoth!”

Martin Angolo

Creative producer, Deirdre Melvin of the Linenhall Arts Centre, enthused: “The Irish language scene in Castlebar is pretty active. In addition to our weekly Ciorcal Comhrá, you will often hear post-show chats or giddy catch ups in our coffee shop in Irish.”

Julie Jay

She continued: “The Linenhall are embracing this by producing a stand-up comedy event as Gaeilge. It's an art-form in which the audience plays an integral role in the performance, plus a fun, interactive and accessible way of hearing the language as it is spoken today.

“We regularly have packed houses when Ger Staunton and Martin Angolo gig in English and are hugely encouraged by the interest to date in this Irish language set. The icing on the cake is guest appearances by Áine Gallagher and Julie Jay.”
