Sacred Heart Hospital Celebrates 50th Anniversary in Castlebar

Castlebar's Sacred Heart Hospital marked its 50th anniversary today with a joyous celebration, honouring five decades of compassionate care.

The hospital on Pontoon Road opened its doors on October 30, 1973, by then Tánaiste, Minister for Health and Labour Party TD, Brendan Corish.

Today's festivities commenced with a heartfelt mass, filling the church with current and former staff members who had dedicated their careers to the hospital's mission.

The occasion offered a unique opportunity for reminiscing about the institution's rich history and sharing stories of the remarkable characters who have graced its halls as both employees and patients.

A grand banquet was served after the church service, bringing together residents, caregivers, staff, and their families.

What makes this celebration even more special is the community's collaborative effort in raising funds for the banquet. Local artists provided music and a free raffle enhanced the atmosphere.
