Cancer Fund for Children expands team to help deliver Mayo centre
CANCER Fund for Children has recruited three new fundraisers who will help make a new therapeutic centre for children with cancer a reality in south Mayo.
Cancer Fund for Children works to empower, connect and strengthen children, young people and families impacted by cancer across the island of Ireland.
To support the growth of their vital services, Bernadette McGarvey has joined the team as partnership and philanthropy manager, Mairead Geehan has joined as partnership and philanthropy executive and Rachel Fullam will enhance community fundraising as west of Ireland regional fundraiser.
They have become valued members of the wider fundraising team and will help generate support for Cancer Fund for Children’s vital services, including helping to build, equip and maintain a second therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge, on the shores of Lough Corrib in Cong.
Speaking on her new role, Bernadette McGarvey said: “I lead the new partnership and philanthropy team working across the island of Ireland to help Cancer Fund for Children achieve its vision - that no child should face cancer alone. I am looking forward to working alongside our corporate partners and donors to fund the development and delivery of our services throughout the island of Ireland.
“Building Daisy Lodge in Co. Mayo is hugely exciting and will impact so many children and families experiencing cancer in Ireland.”
Said Phil Alexander, CEO of Cancer Fund for Children: “We provide informal therapeutic, emotional and social support to children diagnosed with cancer and their families and this support would not be possible without the incredible efforts of our fundraising team. This is part of our overall mission to help ensure no child has to face cancer alone.”
This announcement follows the launch of Cancer Fund for Children’s Community Support Service, created to ensure every child diagnosed with cancer has access to the right support, regardless of where they live. In partnership with the Katie Nugent Fund, a team of four cancer support specialists will now provide support services for children and young people (aged 0-24) across the Republic of Ireland who have been diagnosed with cancer and their families, in their family homes, in communities and in shared care centres.
