Mayo club Claremorris crowned Connacht LGFA junior champions after epic final

Claremorris have been crowned Connacht LGFA junior club champions following a fully deserved 2-13 to 2-8 victory over St. Brigid’s of Leitrim in the final at Abbey Park, Boyle, writes Aiden Henry.

In what was a cracking final, Claremorris produced a five-star performance in front of a massive attendance.

And they had to, as the Leitrim’s champions - who knocked out a very good Galway side in the semi-final - asked Claremorris many serious questions throughout this rip-roaring encounter.

But this young Claremorris side (eight of the starting 15 were minors) came up with all the answers and no one could say they weren’t full value for this victory.

Overall, it was a brilliant all-round team performance by Claremorris, with each team member playing her part in the win.

The defence was very solid throughout, while up front all six starting forwards got on the scoreboard.

Indeed, there were several Claremorris players in contention for player of the match, including the likes of Ellie Maguire, Siómha McNulty, Alana Fitzpatrick, Bree Hession, Ashleagh Salmon and team captain Laura Kelly.

Now Claremorris will have a short break before contesting the All-Ireland junior club championship at the end of the month.
