Mayo LGFA ratifies new senior team manager

Mayo LGFA has ratified Liam McHale as the new county senior team manager for the next three years.

Delegates at the monthly Mayo LGFA County Board meeting last night ratified McHale's appointment and wished him and his management team the very best of luck and success in the role, and thanked them for getting on board.

Interviews to appoint a successor to Michael Moyles were held on October 4 last, after which the recommended candidate put forward by the interview committee was McHale.

When the Mayo LGFA executive met two nights later to discuss the recommended candidate put forward by the interview committee, they held a secret ballot. The outcome of the ballot was not to accept the recommendation of the interview committee.

However, it was subsequently discovered that the procedures manual, as ratified by the clubs and followed by the executive, was flawed.

At a county board meeting on October 10, it was agreed by the delegates to invite McHale back into the process.

The only other candidate for the job was former Mayo minor manager Vinny Gavin, from Swinford.

It is understood that McHale's backroom team includes former Mayo GAA team-mates Dermot Flanagan and Kenneth Mortimer, former Bohola Moy Davitts player and current coach with Kilmoremoy LGFA Padraig Hennigan, and goalkeeping coach Michéal Schlingermann, who was also part of Michael Moyles' management team.
