Flourish is flourishing - social prescribing in action in Mayo

THE celebration of the expansion of the Flourish Social Prescribing Service in Co. Mayo saw the Tommy Marren show on Midwest Radio visiting The Family Centre, Castlebar.

The Family Centre provides a range of services, including the Flourish Social Prescribing Service, which was the focus of this programme. Listeners got an insight into what Flourish is and how it can support them to connect within their community.

Flourish was established in 2011/12 as an innovative social prescribing service for adults in Co. Mayo - the first of its kind in the country. Flourish supports people to connect with social and recreational activities, to get involved with arts, creativity, music, exercise, nature, heritage, to enhance their health and wellness.

Today the centre celebrates the expansion of Flourish as there are now four link workers throughout Co. Mayo.

This service is funded through HSE Mental Health, Sláintecare and HSE Health and Well-Being.

Following the programme, Tommy Marren launched the new Facebook page - Flourish Social Prescribing Mayo. Visitors and friends then joined to celebrate with the family centre as they promoted this along with their new information leaflet.

Thanks to Tommy Marren and Midwest Radio for showcasing the service.
