Achill redevelopment project a welcome boost

THE redevelopment of a commercial property in Achill Sound will be a boost for the local economy.

Kieran Sweeney has received the go-ahead to demolish an existing shop, office and residential building, to replace them with two ground floor commercial units and three two-bedroom apartments at Sraheens, Achill Sound.

Replacing a structure from the 1960s, the development will modernise the existing property while providing new commercial opportunity and welcomed accommodation, design and consulting engineers Masterson Design Ltd. highlighted in making the application for planning to Mayo County Council.

The existing popular knitwear and giftware shop is located in the heart of the Sound and its redevelopment is one of a number of positive local projects, including the greenway extension, that will benefit locals and tourists.
