Public consultation on draft climate action plan for Mayo now open

MAYO County Council has launched a public consultation on the Draft Climate Action Plan 2024 - 2029.

The plan sets out how the local authority will implement and facilitate a range of mitigation, adaptation and other climate action measures in Mayo, which will help deliver on the government’s overall national climate objective, which seeks to pursue and achieve, by no later than the end of 2050, the transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy.

The Draft Climate Action Plan is accompanied by a Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report and Appropriate Assessment Natura Impact Report, which are also out for consultation.

The consultation period for the draft plan runs from Thursday, November 2, until Monday, December 4.

Public consultation drop-in clinics will take place at the following locations and members of the public are encouraged to come along:

(1) Tuesday, November 14, in Castlebar Library from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.;

(2) Wednesday, November 15, in Belmullet Library from 2.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.;

(3) Thursday, November 16, in Westport Library from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and Claremorris Library from 2.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.;

(4) Friday, November 17, in Ballina Library from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Additionally, an online consultation session will take place on Tuesday, November 21, at 7.30 p.m. To register for this session please email: climateaction@mayococo.ie.

The Mayo County Council Draft Climate Action Plan, the Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report and Appropriate Assessment Natura Impact Report, will be on display until Monday, December 4, at 4 p.m., at the following locations:
