Mayo clubs advance in FAI Connaught Cup
Castlebar Celtic overcame Galway Hibs by a 3-0 score line to advance into the third round of the cup.
Goals from free-scoring Luke Kelly (2) and Jason Hunt ensured victory for Stevie Gavin’s men. Victory also for Castlebar Celtic ‘B’ who beat St. Bernard’s 4-3. A hat-trick for Dylan Howley and a goal from Conor Joyce meant double success for the hoops in the provincial tournament on Sunday.
Conn Ranger also have their name in the hat for round three. A hat trick from Adam Gallagher and a goal from Tadhg O’Sullivan helped the north Mayo side to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Galway opposition, Corofin United.
Erris triumphed in a thrilling Connaught Cup clash against Colemenstown, progressing to the next round after a 1-1 draw in full-time and extra time.
The decisive moments unfolded in the opening half, with Erris taking the lead on the 26th minute through James Lavelle, only for Colemenstown to equalize on the 37th minute with a goal from Cillían Grady. Despite challenging windy conditions in the second half, neither side could secure a win.
Erris sealed the victory in a tense penalty shootout, winning 5-4. Eamon Carey scored the winning penalty.
Kiltimagh Knock United had a tough day at the office as they were thrashed 6-0 by Maree Oranmore.
