Mayo mart manager Tom retires

POPULAR mart manager Tom McGuire has retired from his position as manager of Aurivo Mart in Ballinrobe, writes Michael Byrne.

Tom, a native of Ballykilleen, Ballyhaunis, has spent no less than 47 years working in Aurivo marts in the west of Ireland and has worked under four chief executive officers.

Tom, a former Ballyhaunis senior Gaelic footballer, began working for the local mart in Ballyhaunis when he was just 17 years of age. Coincidentally, he also donned the red and black of Ballyhaunis GAA for very many years as well putting in many years of service and commitment to the local club.

Speaking on the day of his retirement last week, Tom reflected on the many changes which he had seen in his 47-year career serving the farmers throughout the west of Ireland. The biggest, he says, was the transition to online selling during Covid-19 during 2020 and 21.

Best wishes to Tom and his wife, the former Joan Folliard from Aghamore, for every good luck and good health in the future.
