Peter Killeen

Mayo broadcaster and author to launch his first children's book

Mayo broadcaster and author Peter Killeen will launch his first children's book, The Adventures of Cranuck the Wildebeest, on Saturday, December 9, upstairs at the Bridge St. premises, Main Street, Castlebar, at 2 p.m.

The proceedings will be chaired by Edwin McGreal, editor of Mayo Books Press, while John Healy will officially launch the book.

Everybody is welcome to attend.

The illustrations in the book were drawn by Karen O'Brien of Bohola.

The Adventures of Cranuck the Wildebeest tells the engaging story of his abandonment as a young calf and his dramatic rescue; his life with his new friends and his search for his mother.

We follow his adventures as he travels with the great wildebeest herd on their annual migration, culminating in his being hailed as a hero by the animals of the Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania.

In the four stories in the book, written by Peter Killeen in a warm and simple style suitable for young readers, Cranuck will endear himself to children with his feats of courage and determination in overcoming adversity.

Karen O’Brien’s striking illustrations help to bring the stories to life.

Peter previous book, Friends of my Youth, which was published in November 2021, was a great local success.

A former manager of Community Radio Castlebar (CRCfm), he still presents his popular weekend shows on the station.

The Adventures of Cranuck the Wildebeest, published by Mayo Books, will be on sale at all local outlets over the coming weeks.

The launch on December 9 presents the ideal opportunity to purchase a copy signed by the author.
