Premiere of new work by Mayo composer

THE premiere of 'Illumination, A Sacred Opus', by Mayo composer Kathy Fahey, takes place in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Friday, December 8, at 8 p.m.

It will be performed by Choral Symphony West, a collaboration of Mayo Concert Orchestra and Vocalessence Ladies Choir, under the musical direction of Kathy.

The hour-long presentation will also feature tenor David Lynn, mezzo-soprano Anna-Louise Costello and baritone Ronan Egan.

Tickets are available on eventbrite.

Kathy has a great passion for sacred music and 'Illumination' was inspired by the Northern Lights which were so prominent in Mayo last year.

"When you are inspired in this way, it is important to sit down and write the music as soon as possible. I did it over a number of weeks and I am delighted with the outcome.

"There are 12 pieces, seven choral pieces, two specific orchestra arrangements and three solos. I think 'Enchanting Skies' is my favourite piece, but 'Radiant Echoes' and 'The Brilliance Within' also portray the feelings and sense of imagery I sought to achieve.

"A lot of time and energy has been invested in the concert by everybody involved and I am inviting all lovers of music to come and enjoy the experience with us as the festive season approaches," she said.
