Castlebar Community First Responders launch life-saving fundraiser

CASTLEBAR Community First Responders have launched a fundraiser to buy life-saving equipment for the Castlebar and surrounding areas.

The group are hoping to go live with the National Ambulance Service in early 2024.

Members will be called out to respond to emergencies such as cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, choking and the unconscious patient.

A GoFundMe page has been launched to support their work (see link below).

The group are reaching out to encourage companies and the public to support the establishment and operation of the Castlebar Community First Responders.

Community first responders are volunteers who are trained to attend certain types of emergency calls in the area where they live or work. Their aim is to reach a potential life-threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives.

Their role is to help stabilise the patient and provide the appropriate care, including CPR and defibrillation, until the more highly skilled ambulance crew arrives on scene to take over treatment.

You can play a fundamental role in supporting the group by offering financial support, donation of equipment, or volunteering staff members. Your contribution can help fund training sessions and the purchase of equipment such as medical kits and AED machines. You can also help by participating in community awareness programmes to educate the public about the importance of community responder groups and providing information on how to support them.
