Lahardane MacHales emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle against Owenmore Gaels of Sligo by a scoreline of 3:10 to 1:12 under intense fog in MacHale Park.

The match, played in Castlebar under the challenging cloak of dense freezing fog, was a spectacle of determination and skill.

The encounter was on the brink of cancellation, given the adverse weather conditions, but an hour before throw-in, officials gave the green light. To combat the fog, Connacht council officials sourced distinctive orange footballs, enabling the game to begin.

Lahardane MacHales showcased their goal-scoring prowess with three crucial goals from Kyran Jordan, Matthew Maughan, and Shane Finnerty. Despite trailing by eight points with ten minutes to go, Owenmore Gaels fought valiantly, with Sligo inter-county star Dillon Walsh scoring a late goal to narrow the gap.

The frosty conditions failed to deter passionate supporters who braved the weather to witness the thrilling encounter. The match, marked by its free-flowing and attacking style, provided a treat for those in attendance. Lahardane MacHales' victory, against the odds and weather, cements their status as Connaught champions.

An All-Ireland semi-final against Listowel Emmett’s of Kerry or Kilmurry of Cork will be played in the new year.
