Mayo butchers Kelly’s spiced beef strikes gold

Kelly’s Butchers, Newport, are back to their winning ways.

This time it is the Christmas favourite Kelly’s Spiced Beef which has won gold in the Craft Butchers ACBI National Spiced Beef Competition 2024.

This is a premium produce made to a closely guarded recipe using beef from their own family farm meaning only a very limited amount is available each year.

“We are over the moon with this award”, said Seán Kelly of Kelly’s Butchers, “We’ve been making Spiced Beef to a traditional family recipe for years and it’s wonderful to get national recognition for it. We only use our own beef to ensure top quality”.

Kelly’s Spiced Beef is available to order for Christmas from the shop in Newport and can be delivered by courier countrywide.

Spiced Beef has been part of traditional Christmas fare for three centuries, predating the turkey.

It fell out of fashion in England and Wales where it had been very common, but remained popular in Ireland, especially in the southwest.

Today it is making a real comeback and Kelly’s Butchers use their own special blend of spices to give Kelly’s Spiced Beef an unsurpassed flavour.

Simple to cook and delicious either hot or cold, Spiced Beef is great to have on hand for hungry mouths over the festive period.

Just simmer on the hob or pop in the oven in a water filled casserole dish. Rest it for half an hour when it’s cooked, take it out of the bag and it’s ready to go.

Spiced Beef is very easy to carve either hot for dinner or cold for outstanding sandwiches.

It’s a fantastic match for sourdough bread so if you’re out to impress, serve some Spiced Beef and salad sandwiches made with sourdough and watch them disappear.

Kelly’s Butchers supply everything that’s needed for the Christmas dinner table from ham and turkey to duck, geese and venison.

Hampers in a selection of sizes are available to order from the website and can be picked up in Newport or delivered by courier countrywide.
