Mayo GAA Club launches fundraiser for prize everyone would dearly love
BALLINTUBBER GAA Club is offering a lucky winner the chance to earn €1,000 a week for a year after launching their ‘Win €52K’ fundraiser.
The club intends to use the proceeds raised to install flood lighting at Ray Prendergast Memorial Park in Clogher and for the development of their underage structures.
The launch took place in the clubhouse, with special guest James Horan, local representatives and club members on hand to support it.
Patrick Barrett, Cathaoirleach of Ballintubber GAA Club, said the fundraiser would support ongoing development of facilities.
“Our club is very community-focused,” he commented. “A number of other clubs and organisations including Carnacon LGFA, Ballintubber Bulls Basketball Club, Ballintubber Cycling Club, Killawalla Badminton Club and the Over 55s group use our facilities.
"It gives us great pride in being able to try and improve our facilities and give these groups the opportunity to avail of them.”
Mr. Barrett said they intend to build on the incredible volunteer work within the club by installing floodlights in Clogher, which will make the pitch accessible all year round.
“Between our own club and Carnacon LGFA, our pitches are used by over 15 teams all year round. This places a considerable demand on our Ballintubber pitches during year when teams have to train in the dark, often during wet weather.
“Having access to our Clogher pitch during the dark months would be a huge benefit to everyone who uses our facilities,” he added.
“We have had fundraisers in the past and as always, the club members and the community as a whole have supported and backed us all the way, and I’m sure they will do likewise again.”
Former Mayo manager James Horan, who lined out with Ballintubber and managed them to their first Moclair Cup in 2010, was proud to lend his support to his native club when he appeared as guest of honour at the launch of the fundraiser.
“Ballintubber have done incredible work on and off the field throughout the years and now boast some of the best training facilities in the county,” said Horan.
“I am delighted to support this fundraiser and would encourage everyone to support it to ensure the club maintains its health and success in the years ahead.”
Tickets are reasonably priced at €20 each or three for €50, and can be purchased through the club fundraiser website, www.win€52k.ie, or from any of the club’s executive, whose contact details can be found on the club website, www.ballintubbergaa.com.
The winner will be drawn in the club’s Clogher clubhouse on Sunday, June 2, next year, and will be broadcast live on their Facebook page.
