New Status Yellow weather warning issued for Mayo

A new Status Yellow low temperature/ice warning has been issued for Mayo ahead of a night when thermometers are could drop below minus four degrees.

Met Éireann is forecasting very cold conditions with frost and ice.

The possible impacts are:

• Slippery conditions underfoot

• Hazardous travelling conditions

• Animal welfare issues.

The warning is valid from 6 p.m. today until 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Met Éireann stated: "It will be dry in most places tonight with clear spells and just a few isolated showers, the odd wintry one.

"There's the likelihood of some isolated fog or freezing fog patches as winds decrease mostly light and variable.

"Lowest temperatures generally will rang from around -3 or -4 to zero degrees, with widespread frost and ice."
