Concern surrounding Mayo footpaths in icy conditions

Elected members of Castlebar municipal district raised concerns about the state of treacherous footpaths around the county town during the recent spell of icy weather.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne remarked, “something needs to be done about it soon, the elderly are in prison in their own homes and can’t go out during freezing spells.”

He continued, "we had been told there would be piles of grit and salt left out for people to disperse themselves but this hasn’t been done."

"We need assurances this is done before the next icy spell before there are people with cracked skulls up in A&E”, the Independent Councillor said.
