Large water bursts repaired on Achill Island

UISCE Éireann has repaired two large bursts on Achill Island, with reservoirs now replenishing.

Customers in Tonragee, Polranny and Dooega and surrounding areas impacted by the burst are expected to have a normal water supply restored by tomorrow morning (Thursday).

Thanking the community for their patience, Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill explained that, to support those impacted, it has made an alternative supply available in Dooega.

She explained: “Supply in Achill is currently being restored to all customer in the community but in the meantime alternative supply will be available in Dooega.

“We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to repair the burst and return normal water supply.

“Customers availing of the alternative supply are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure as per Health Service Executive (HSE) advice.”

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from them for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and updates are also issued via Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) @IWCare.
