Mayo company a winner at RSA Leading Light Awards

Mayo-based business Robe Training has been awarded the Road Safety Authority (RSA) CPC Training Organisation Award in road safety for 2023. The award was presented by RSA chairperson Liz O’Donnell at the RSA’s Leading Light in Road Safety Awards in the RDS.

Based in Ballinrobe, Robe Training Ltd. has been providing driver CPC training to professional bus and truck drivers in the west of Ireland and beyond since 2018.

Founder and managing director Noel Finlay together with trainers Patrick Finlay and David McMorrow have an in-depth knowledge of the rules and regulations, in addition to the practical elements required by all professional drivers in the transport industry.

A total of 12 category and one special recognition award were presented by the RSA to individuals and organisations to honour their commitment and dedication to road safety. Roscommon natives Clodagh and Méabh White were chosen as the overall winners and were awarded the Gertie Shields Supreme Award in road safety.

The Gay Byrne Media Award was presented to Sally-Ann Barrett, multimedia journalist with RTÉ who produced a two-part series for RTÉ Radio One’s Morning Ireland focussing on road behaviour in Craughwell village in Co. Galway and in Swinford in Co. Mayo, after the two counties experienced substantial increases in road fatalities.

The series gave a voice to locals in the counties and brought stories of the impact and ripple-effect of road collisions to a national audience.

The docuseries gave listeners a sense of what people in these areas are experiencing, what is being done and what measures are happening to improve road safety.
