Alzheimer Society launch new social club in Mayo county town

THE Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) has announced the opening of its new social club in Castlebar.

The ASI welcomes people living with dementia, their carers and families to attend its new social club in Castlebar Social Services Building.

The ASI Castlebar Social Club course will take place every second Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The social club will commence on Friday, December 15.

The club is a social gathering where people can call in to have a chat, access information and support and meet other people to exchange ideas and experiences. People living with dementia can engage in activities and enjoy dance, music and therapeutic stimulation.

The club also plans activities, outings, and offers opportunities for people with dementia and their carers to meet others in a welcoming, warm and informal setting.

Social club coordinator Catherine McLellan said: “The social club is a great place for people living with dementia to meet others in a warm and relaxed environment and have fun.

“ASI staff members and volunteers support each club meeting and facilitate the group's needs.”

Said ASI head of operations, Siobhan O’Connor: “We’re looking forward to opening our dementia-specific social club in Castlebar, which to aims to foster a sense of community and connection among people living with dementia. We welcome people with the condition, carers and family members in the region to join us.”
