Capacity at ATU Mayo expanding for electrical apprenticeships

A Mayo TD had today welcomed the announcement of €17 million in capital funding to respond to the growing demand for apprenticeships in the higher education sector, which includes funding to ATU Mayo in Castlebar.

This additional capacity is required to meet the increase in apprentice registrations as indicated by SOLAS in a number of trades.

The funding includes additional electrical apprenticeship capacity in ATU Mayo in Castlebar in the form of 12 blocks, which is essentially 12 new classes to expand capacity and meet demand.

Deputy Michael Ring commented: “There is a growing demand for learning through apprenticeship and I am delighted that funding is being allocated to ATU Mayo so that this demand can be met locally in Castlebar.

“The opportunities for employment in trades such as electrical, plumbing, metal fabrication, refrigeration, pipefitting and electronic security systems are immense.

"These are areas of skills that are vital to our economy and to our housing targets.”

“I would urge people to consider the apprenticeship route of education as an good option for a career. I look forward to seeing additional apprentices being trained at ATU Mayo in Castlebar."
