University of Galway honours Mayo woman Lourda McHugh

Lourda McHugh, Castlebar, has been presented with a Doctor of Laws (LLD) from University of Galway.

Lourda, originally from Newport, was recognised for her advocacy, leadership, and steadfast commitment to raising funds for breast cancer research through community partnerships and sporting organisations.

She was a founder member of the annual Mayo Pink Ribbon Cycle.

Lourda is a long-time board member of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute supporting the development of research facilities at University of Galway, established research and academic appointments, and graduate scholarships resulting in academic impact and cancer research advances.
