Yellow wind warning issued for Mayo as heavy rain and gale expected

Inclement conditions are on the horizon, according to the latest forecast.

Take a look below at what the weather has in store for the county.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 21

Mayo residents are urged to brace for a weather event as Met Éireann issues a status yellow wind warning for tomorrow. The warning encompasses the entire day, from 00:00 to 20:00, with conditions expected to be particularly challenging due to strong to near gale force and gusty west to north west winds.

The weather advisory predicts gales in coastal areas, high seas with the potential for wave overtopping, and localised disruptions. Those in the region should be cautious, especially when driving or cycling, as the windy conditions may create difficult travel circumstances.

The day is forecasted to be mostly cloudy with intermittent rain and drizzle, although brighter conditions may develop in some northern and eastern parts. Despite the unsettled weather, temperatures are expected to remain mild, reaching highs of 10 or 11 degrees Celsius.

As Thursday night approaches, the windy conditions are expected to persist with fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds. The winds are anticipated to ease later in the night, accompanied by mostly cloudy skies and scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

Some heavier bursts are possible in the north and north west.

Overnight temperatures will remain mild, ranging from 7 to 9 degrees Celsius.
