Tributes to retired Mayo deputy school principal on her passing

Tributes are being paid to Brid Concannon, Gortnaleice, The Curragh, Castlebar, and late of Cappagh, Barna, Galway.

She died peacefully yesterday at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar.

Requiem Mass took place today in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Afterwards, her remains were removed to the University of Galway donor programme to honour Brid's request to aid in the silent teaching of medical students.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

A former deputy principal of St. Joseph's Secondary School, Castlebar, many warm tributes have been paid to her on social media.

One described the deceased as "a wonderful teacher who inspired a love of literature and reading" in her students.

"She was a beautiful person, kind and gentle," another stated.

A further tribute said: "Such a wonderful person, great sense of humour. A warrior."

Seoirse O Móráin, chairperson of the board of management at the school, said the school community, past and present, was saddened to learn of Brid's passing.
