Bank of Ireland appeals Mayo council decision on ATM relocation

BANK of Ireland has lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála after a proposal to relocate its ATM in Castlebar received a thumbs down from council planners.

The building at Ellison Street is a protected structure and it was felt that the move - to the right of the existing ATM - would negatively impact the front facade of the building.

The works proposed involve the installation of a new ATM, along with alterations to an existing window, and removal of a section of an existing stonework plinth.

Planners at Mayo County Council felt the new ATM would significantly alter the fenestration associated with the facade. Their report stated that any proposal to accommodate additional ATMs should revise the existing ATM and provide slimeline ATMS with a vertical emphasis in the existing masonary, or relocate the ATM more suitably along the facade in a way that does not negatively impact this protected structure.

An Bord Pleanála is due to issue a decision on the appeal by mid April.
