Pressures ease overnight at Mayo emergency unit

Pressures have eased today at the emergency unit of Mayo University Hospital.

After the situation reached a crisis point yesterday with 41 patients left without beds, the number has been reduced to eight overnight.

Two of those are in the emergency department and six in wards elsewhere.

Nationally, 450 admitted patients are waiting for beds this morning, according to the INMO Trolley Watch.

Up to 327 patients are waiting in the emergency department while 123 are in wards elsewhere in the hospital.
