€176,616 for four recreational projects in Mayo

FOUR Mayo groups are to receive a total of €176,616 under Measures 1 of the government’s CLÁR Programme, Deputy Alan Dillon has confirmed.

The four projects are:

Bohola Community Park (€50,000): Development of seating and walkway in the Durkan Community Park.

Burrishoole Community Partnership (€44,616): Development of a walking trail and sensory garden.

Garracloon National School, Knockmore (€32,500): Resurfacing of the play area.

Louisburgh Community Futures CLG (€49,500): Repair and refurbishment of Louisburgh Town Hall.

Said Deputy Dillon: “I am delighted these brilliant organisations in Bohola, Knockmore, Burrishoole and Louisburgh are supported by this funding and want to acknowledge the support received from Minister Heather Humphreys in securing this vital funding which will significantly contribute to improving the facilities in these areas.

“I understand how important it is to prioritise sustainable rural development and the CLÁR programme is a great scheme to help make our communities better places to live, work and raise families. Schools and community groups work alongside Mayo County Council to put forward these initiatives and the CLÁR funding is then crucial to getting the projects over the line.

“These projects are hugely important to our local communities. It is important that as a government we continue to invest in rural Ireland in as many ways as possible.”

The Bohola project's funding was welcomed by local Councillor Adrian Forkan, who stated: “I’m delighted the €50,000 in CLÁR funding has come for the completion of the pathway in the Durkan Community Park.

“A huge amount of work has gone into this project so far and I will continue to support Tom O’Brien and his hard-working committee to deliver this fantastic project to completion.”

Councillor Forkan shared a video montage of the Durkan Community Park on his social media:

Also welcoming the allocations, Deputy Michael Ring commented: “CLÁR is a targeted investment programme for rural areas that aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in rural areas. This targeted investment can have a huge impact on small rural communities.

“Time and time again, we have seen the very positive impact that funding of this nature can have on local communities. These projects help communities to thrive and develop.”
