Mayo wind warning upgraded to orange level

A WIND warning for County Mayo has been upgraded from yellow to orange status.

The status orange warning will come into effect at 5 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday) and is in place until 2 a.m. Monday.

Mer Éireann are forecasting very strong southwest winds with severe and damaging gusts.

Impacts include large coastal waves with wave overtopping, very difficult travelling conditions, fallen trees and damage to power lines.

A status yellow warning will follow, in place until 12 noon Monday.
