Roads blocked across Mayo due to fallen trees as Storm Isha bites

Mayo County Council is reporting extensive disruption being caused across Mayo as a result of Storm Isha.

Fallen trees are blocking roads across the county and there are power outages at several locations.

The N17 is closed outside of Claremorris at Lisduff following an accident.

Diversions are in place for southbound traffic via Claremorris and northbound traffic in Ballindine, towards Scardaun, Crossboyne and back into Claremorris.

The storm is expected to reach its peak around 9 p.m.

A breakdown of road blockages is as follows:

-Tree down at Quay Road in Westport blocking one lane

-Tree down blocking the Clooneen Road

-Tree down at Ballinvoy towards Aghagower

-Two poles down at Geesala graveyard - blocking the road

- Lots of debris on the Inver to Barnatra from a shed.

-Tree down and road flooded between The Neale ad Tighe Wood.

- Tree down on the R334 between Ballindine and Irishtown.

- Road flooded and stones fallen off a wall on the N84 berween Kilmaine and Ballyjennings.

-Tree down on a local road in Sweetwell, Swinford.

-Road flooded on the R311 Hollymount Road at Gorthnashammer.

-Tree branches and debris on the R311 at Tesco, Ballinrobe.

- Numerous trees down in the Belmullet area.

- Tree down between Carnacon and Ballyglass,

- Two trees down on the Ballinlough road out of Ballyhaunis, near Murphy's garage.

- Road completely blocked between Pontoon and Lahardane due to fallen tree.

- Tree down near Cross church on The Neale road.

- Fallen tree at Delphi Lodge and the R335 is impassable as a result.

- Tree down on the cut across between Ballintubber and Killawalla.

- Tree down between Aughagower and the Country Lodge Hotel.

- Castlerea to Carrowbehy road blocked

- Tree blocking half the road at Gurrane between Ballyhaunis and Cloonfad.

- Tree down at Lennon's factory on the Knock to Ballyhaunis road.

- Three to four trees down near Knockbrack on the Ballyhaunis to Ballinlough road.

- Tree down at the traffic lights at Tesco in Claremorris.

- Tree down in the North Mall, Westport, blocking one lane.

- Tree down on Castlebar Road, Foxford.

-Tree down in the N83 near Tavrane School, Kilkelly.

Council workmen will clear the trees when possible.

People are urged to stay at home until the storm passes.

Several supermarkets and other retail outlets closed early today due to the situation.

Mayo Sailing Club recorded gusts of 150km/h in Clew Bay.
